Kaarma

Last night, I watched the Markus Kaarma, story. It was on some "Dateline" kind of show. Kaarma's the Montana guy who shot German foreign exchange student Diren Dede, after Dede wandered into Kaarma's garage. Kaarma, was reportedly found guilty of murder and is now serving 70 years in prison, no parole in 20 years.

Google the story.

I agree, Kaarma, had a right to defend his home from a home invader... I agreed 100% UNTIL it is was clearly obvious Kaarma, made horrible choices, one of them taking the law in his own hands.

Being born doesn't guarantee you a perfect safe life. Hopefully we learn enough life experiences to prevent us from being in a situation like Kaarma's to begin with.

I've taken my hits. I still take them. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, hopefully smarter.

I don't find guns (in the homes and hands of civilians), hunting, fishing, beating, whipping, or anything of the like, sexy. It's not sexy.

The first time...

This guy and I had been dating for about two weeks. One morning at breakfast he said, very seriously, "I really enjoy the time we spend together. Thank you for staying with me. I thought after the first night we spent together, I was going to lose you. I didn't think we were going to spend the night together. It was our first date. I certainly wasn't expecting you to spend the night at my house... "

I was very confused. No idea what he was talking about. Turns out the first night we spent together, at his house, there was a loaded gun under my pillows. I slept on a loaded gun all night. I didn't feel it. Thick pillows, I guess.

He wasn't a cop or military guy. Just a regular guy... Who let me sleep with a gun under my head.

I never saw that guy again.

The second time...

We only had the one date. The one encounter. The following morning he was looking for a pair of glasses. He asked, "Can you open that (drawer by my side of the bed) and see if my glasses are in there?"

I open the drawer and there's a big gun. Clip next to the gun. Glasses next to the clip. Never saw that guy again either.

He wasn't a cop or military.

Responsible men with guns tell women who are spending the night, "Hey listen, I don't want to frighten you but, I have to tell you something..."

And let the woman make an informed decision.

But then again, everyone in Los Angeles, is drugs and disease free, so...

How much honesty can we expect?
